A rather realistic apocalyptic "novella". Not sure if the author set out to write just a novella but that is what it seems like. I will have to to see if the next book in the series is a short story before I buy it. The story line may have potential but hard to tell since in this first "book" it appears to be character development. We will have to see because I avoid Novellas like the apocalyptic plague.I bought this book because I was intrigued with the author' s background and places he lived in and or traveled to.I hate to be mean rating this work a three star production but my opinion is t hit at if an author cannot respect his readers enough to produce close to 300 Kindlized pages per book why should his readers respect him enough to rate his works above average. Taylor seems to have the talent but seems unwilling to display it.:-)

I am seriously addicted to non-zombie apocalyptic stories. But Keith Taylor's first Jack Archer book has to be one of the most well written books out there, as far as grammer, typos and continuity go. The story is riveting, and I am glad I had the time to read it in one sitting, and will be anxiously awaiting "the rest of the story"!

Write what you know. Seaplane pilots don't use parachutes. Also, what kind of seaplane would have a radio in the 200 something megahertz range? The intercepting military airplane yes - but not a seaplane. Overall - a good story for one book in a series - so I bought the second (big mistake).

Pretty good read in the genre, good character development , however I am worried that readers will forget this is a ord of fiction. Being a full time person involved in Hospital Disaster preparedness, I want to assure readers that there is no such protocol as the " Code Black" portrayed in this book. Hospital disaster evacuations start with the highest acuity patients first, " Walking wounded" would be expected to help themselves. Otherwise a good read with excellent character development

This is part 1 of a trilogy. Jack Archer is a man living at the end of his rope...he's lost his medical license, his family, and is surviving day to day on drugs and alcohol. And now things have taken a turn for the worst, as the West Coast of the U.S. is under nuclear attack. But hey, by the end of book 1 things are starting to look up...he's acquired a brown lab, Boomer, as a traveling companion. Jack is no longer alone, and Boomer is giving him the strength to persevere. Now on to book 2.

Loved this book! A breathless page-turner. Descriptions of people and events are excellent. As the author is describing Jack before the attack, I could actually feel those depressing details, as if I was feeling them myself. Holding my breath for Volume2.

Can't wait to read second half of this series. Great job on creating an excellent series in a setting that has been used frequently. Quickly purchased everything else by this author that I can find

Very good read. Grips you right away. Waiting for the next one. One of those books you can not put down.
