Really decent book geared for the beginner carver. Shows basic axe and knife techniques and follows up with 5 nice spoon projects to get those basic skills into muscle memory. What I find the book exceptional in is giving a first time teacher a good lesson plan to run with.

Enjoyed, EJ demonstrated sound techniques rekindled desire to carve spoons. Appears very down to earth and well grounded.

This book is informative in technique and mindset. Beautiful photography. If you appreciate a more modern approach to craft this is a great book.

great book, good advice

This is a pretty book with good production values. However the writing is a bit careless when describing carving technique and there are numerous proof reading errors that are annoying. This book falls far behind "The Artful Wooden Spoon" by Joshua Vogel, which shows a large number of beautifully photographed spoons of different styles and woods. For careful descriptions of carving technique "Swedish Carving Techniques" by Wille Sundqvist seems to be definitive.

Beautiful book with a lot of great photos and information. Was disappointed the cover arrived damaged.
