Tom Ryan follows up his wonderful Following Atticus book with Will's Red Coat. This is a page turner that is extremely well written. Tom is a great storyteller. The pictures included are an extra bonus. Will was a very lucky dog to have found Tom. And vice-versa! This book will forever change the way you view older dogs. They need homes and add so much joy. My hope is that this book skyrockets to become a bestseller and that older dogs who are in shelters are given a second look and a second chance at life. It also helps me to understand my aging dogs better. Over all, an excellent read. Highly recommended. This story will stay with you forever.

I looked forward to the publication of this book with great anticipation. Tom Ryan's first book, "Following Atticus", came to me at a turning point in my life. It was a great comfort and I wondered if the second book could be as meaningful; however, it is powerful in it's own way. Atticus was a young dog in the first book. His adventures were based upon challenges such as climbing great heights, nighttime hikes, and winter storms. Will was a different dog with a different path. In addition to his physical disabilities, Will's struggles were in his heart and soul. He went as deep as Atticus climbed high. Not only were the dogs' stories different but Tom had grown and changed between writing the two books. And so had I. It turns out both books are a perfect match for my needs at the time. I loved the thrills of Atticus climbing mountains in all kinds of weather, but also the Zen-like way Will moved through the world. It's hard to classify books by Tom Ryan because they cover so many topics - Dogs, poetry, literature, nature, spirituality, relationships, family, love, trust and most of all, the belief that it is never too late to change and grow. Read Tom Ryan's books if any of these things resonate with you.

I am no writer, but I have to tell you about this book. This is a beautiful story, beautifully written. For me it would be enough to say it is a memoir and love story of a man and his dog companions but it is much more. Nature, magic, mysticism, beauty, friendship, patience, empathy, the journey of aging humans and dogs. Tom Ryan's words make me feel like I am there in the forest, at the shore, in the kitchen, in the village shops. A good dog story is fine for me, but this is so much more.

It is difficult to express the heights and depths of emotion I experienced while reading about Will. It turns out this story encompasses so much more than "just" being a story about a senior dog. Tom Ryan exposes gut feelings, beliefs and his appreciation for nature in a lyrical style. Deeply moving, soul wrenching and ultimately redemptive!

This story will touch you in so many ways. I savored the book as I was reading it and I didn't want it to end. Forget all the self help books out there about how to make your life better, just read this book. Tom found contentment, joy, love, and peace and so many other things that people spend millions searching for simply by living with his two dogs and being willing to learn from his experiences with them. The picture of Will and Atticus where Atticus comforts Will during a seizure will bring tears to your eyes. Thank you Tom for writing this book and sharing it with us, it has already changed how I look at life.
