I had never read such an explicit account of the London blitz. I had read about it but never so completely felt it. That in itself was worth reading the book. The story of Lisa as she is sent from Nazi Germany by kindertransport to England and of her life as a hated German to many and a loved daughter by others. I don't understand why this book has not come out in Paper. It is so worth discussion by book clubs.

The Girl with No Name is one of the very best novels I have read in a long time. Watching this girl from the beginning of her teens until she becomes an adult was Outstanding. She goes through such ordeals and some very sad times to --------. Read it for yourself. I don't want to give away any of the story. It is great, exciting, suspenseful, sad. So many twists and turns. Please read this, you won't be sorry.

What a great read! Great storyline, a moving plot, and sufficient twists and turns to keep you reading. I cheered on the main character throughout the entire book. The best part was that it was a clean read, and I'd feel comfortable passing it on.

This is a fascinating read about a young German-Jewish girl that is sent to England alone, by her mother. Her father, a doctor, was detained by the Gestapo. Her mother, realizing that their future looked bleak, due to the fact that her husband's mother was Jewish and her son was blind, decided to send Lisa to England, in the hope the child might survive WWII.This story keeps you on the edge of your seat. The author has the amazing talent to take you on the journey of this child, from the terrors of the rise of Nazi Germany to the unknown and uncertainty of London. The journey has many twists and turns. This is a heart warming, tear jerking and frightening trip of a child that becomes a strong woman while surviving incredible challenges and the strangers that helped shape her life. A MUST READ!

The story was excellent. The writing was reminiscent of high school essays, though, because it was choppy and had a number of errors. (Seemed to be written during an all-nighter.) The story was well thought out, but the writer was in a big hurry to finish it, maybe? For example, in chapter 8, page 82... "Mary and Dan went to Mary's funeral..." She meant "Naomi and Dan went to Mary's funeral." The first few chapters were not smooth, but gave a great deal of information. The jumping around from person to person and situation to situation was not crafted in a way that the reader could easily fall into the story. Felt as though the writer was summarizing other stories so the future chapters of this book would make sense. So much so, that i put it down at one point to see if there were other books before this one that were being quickly summarized, so the rest of the book would make sense. In the same way that television shows give you a "last season on..." intro. Since this was my first read by this author, I felt a bit tied to the back of a moving vehicle, while I was getting through those parts. It was all worth it, however, since the story was so beautiful. This book had the potential to be top-quality fiction, if only the writing and editing would've been better executed.

I know I am in the minority - but I could not get into this book. I tried it on a recommendation and also read the reviews of it. I like to give every book a fair chance by reading at least 100 pages - and I couldn't even get that far. I got to almost page 85 and I just had to give up. I wanted to like it. It was too slow - the writing was rocky - I don't know how else to describe it. I love reading and I'm not one to give up, but unfortunately this book just didn't work for me. I am donating it to my local library - maybe someone there will be able to enjoy it.

Good story about the Jewish refuge children escaping Nazi Germany by being sent to London. The main character was put on a train by her mother in an attempt to save her from the Nazi's. She is fostered by a couple in London and does not know the status of her family back home. She endures the Blitz, is caught in a raid where she is injured and loses her memory. All in all, this girl, despite having lost her memory, has a pretty good experience. She loses touch with some people, finds more friends, spends time in the country, helps a single women love again and meets her future husband. I'm sure many children in the same situation suffered far worse or had PTSD. The book is a good read, but in reality I think it's a tad sugar-coated. Still a good book.

I saw this book advertised online on "Book Bub" and, although it sounded interesting, it was not the kind of book I usually read. However, I thought I would change from the mystery/adventure genre and go for something more "relaxing". I am so glad I did! It is well written with very real characters placed in very real circumstances. I was completely pulled into the story and into each character's lives. It always seemed so important to find out what was going to happen next and who would survive not only the Blitz but everything else that was going on! When Lisa lost her memory I wondered if she would get it back. Would she be moved out of London and away from all the bombing? If so, would her "foster" parents ever be able to find her again? Would she ever find her real parents who were left in Germany when she was put on the children's refugee train to Great Britain? I could tell you the answers to these questions but I'm sure you will be much happier finding out the answers when you read the book. I know I completely enjoyed every single chapter. Perhaps you will, also!
